Tremont Gardeners

Lincoln Park Cleanup

You know it's spring when the Tremont Gardeners schedule the Lincoln Park cleanup!

We will meet at the gazebo at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, to rake leaves, prune shrubs and dead grasses, pick up trash from the beds, etc. We probably will be there a couple of hours, so stop by and help or stop by and say hello.

If you're planning to help, please bring any garden tools you have, like pruners, rakes and brooms. We'll have heavy-duty garbage bags.

March Gardeners meeting

The March Tremont Gardeners meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 18 at 7 p.m. at Visible Voice Books on Kenilworth Ave.

We are starting to plan for our annual flower sale in May and for our spring cleanups and planting projects, so if you're interested in gardening and neighborhood beautification, please stop by!

Sign up for one project or many projects. Everyone is welcome!

Roundabout

Thanks to everyone who risked life and limb to plant perennials in the Quigley Road Roundabout. A group of about 10 gardeners and neighbors started at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 12 and had the thing knocked out before noon.

This is a major gateway into Tremont and the first of seven "gateway gardens" planned for the neighborhood with completion dates scheduled sometime during the next 2 years.

May Events

May is a busy month for Tremont gardeners and anyone interested in helping out.

Saturday, May 19, is our annual spring flower sale. We will have 600 flats of various types of flowers for sale in Lincoln Park starting at 9 a.m. We also will have a limited number of quart pots of geraniums, impatiens, vines, spikes and asparagus ferns, as well as a few hanging baskets of Boston ferns. Our prices continue to be well-below those of Gales, Petittis and Home Depot, although we were forced to raise them due to increased greenhouse growing costs that were passed on to us.

March Gardeners Meeting

Tremont Gardeners will meet at Prosperity Social Club on Tuesday, March 20 at 7 p.m. We'll be talking about spring projects.
Hope to see you there.

The event is FREE and open to all, but a RSVP is requested. Please call 216.429.8246 with questions or to RSVP.

February Meeting

Tremont Gardeners will meet at Prosperity Social Club on Starkweather on Tuesday, Feb. 20th at 7 p.m.

Our meetings will be held the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Prosperity, unless otherwise noted.

Thanks!

January Meeting Agenda

The January Tremont Gardeners Planning Meeting will be held on Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Tremont West Offices on Professor. The meeting will start at 9:30 a.m. and is expected to take several hours (we're ordering pizza from Edison's for lunch). Anyone interested in participating in the gardeners or in learning more about projects scheduled for 2007 is welcome to attend.

Topics will include choosing Tremont gateways to plant in 2007; timing of spring cleanup of Lincoln Park flower beds; scheduling of spring flower sale; discussion of a partnership between ParkWorks and Tremont Gardeners for a couple of gateways, specifically the Scranton/Train-Fairfield intersection and the Wade Avenue corridor as cars come off I-90 and head toward Scranton Rd.; possible participation or support by the Tremont Gardeners of neighborhood community (vegetable) gardens; timing for planting the Quigley Rd. roundabout; Court Community Service cleanups of the Tremont neighborhood; and whatever else people want to talk about.

January Planning Meeting

The Tremont Gardeners will hold a planning meeting for 2007 projects one Saturday in January.

Discussion will include:

  • The ongoing focus and structure of the group
  • Upcoming scheduled projects (Gateways into the neighborhood on W. 14 and off I-490 near Valley View and on Abby Rd.; Planting of the Quigley Rd. roundabout)
  • Potential future projects. Telephone pole banners designating South Tremont and Tremont? Small directional signs? New gardening projects? Plant sales? Public art? A community vegetable garden? Selling Tremont Gardeners swag, like t-shirts and hats?

Send me an email:

  • If you have ideas and want to attend the meeting. When a date is chosen, I'll let you know.
  • If you have ideas for Tremont Gardener projects but don't want to be part of the gardeners.
  • If you don't like attending meetings but wouldn't mind getting your hands dirty on a community project or two when they come up.

I plan on using this forum to let anyone not on our email list know what projects are coming up and when, so that anyone wishing to can come out and help, stop by and admire, or show up and criticize...whatever suits his or her fancy.
