Crime and Safety

Mugging

A male tremont resident was jumped in the park after dusk tuesday nite 10/28 by two white adolescent males (one likely an adult) described as longtime residents. A struggle took place with one trying to restrain the victim while the other forcibly checked the victim's pockets and some cash was taken. Minor injuries were incurred. The robbers crept up to the victim from behind while walking through the northern half of the park. Further descriptions of the perps may follow.

Car Break-In

Just an FYI -

Someone broke into my car and stole the stereo early Thursday morning, October 30.  It was parked on Literary near the Literary Cafe, across from Lemko Hall.  This has happened with other vehicles several times before in the last 18 months or so.  Of course, I left my car out anyway (shame on me).  Bottom line: use caution when parking your car on that stretch of Literary overnight.

My Bike and 711 Starkweather

So, my bike that was stolen has been seen by multiple people (myself included) being ridding by two kids who live at 711 Starkweather...

This week I approached one of them, while he was riding it, on my way to work at 7:20 in the morning. It has now been altered with an ugly color purple, the Rambler name is still visible, the front wheel has been removed and a smaller one installed and the handle bars are now tilted upward. My bike is unique and noone else had anything even close. The seat and handlebars matched and had a white, girl-ey like glitter to them.

Property Crimes

Car of resident of central Tremont was burlgarized (broken window) late saturday night 3AM, for car stereo. A neighbor saw this theft in progress, as car alarm sounded and thief quickly and cleanly removed car stereo and jumped into a waiting get-away car, described as a silver compact which looked "Ford-Focus-like". Thief described by witness as African-American male, no notable features. Victim's car was parked in apron of drive with decent lighting, definitely visible. Stereo had faceplate removed but was still targeted.

Thanks Second District Officers!

I had to call Second District last week with a stupid problem – a neighbor several doors down had taken my city-issued trash container and wouldn't give it back. I knew it was mine because I wrote down the serial number, and it nearly is impossible to throw trash away if it's not in the container, so I called Second District's non-emergency number.

I was told that "Officers would be dispatched" and I forgot to ask how long it would take for them to get here: an hour? a day? a week? I barely had put the phone down when the officers were at my door.

The Real story why Fire Station 21 was closed, get ready to fight to save Tremont/Flats station after Labor Day

I must tell you after reviewing this WKYC story I became steamed. Please remember we only have a commitment from the City of Cleveland until Labor Day. Then what? Start making arrangements to have the Fire Union officials come to the September Block Club meetings.

We will have to deal with this. Start making noise.
