TREMONT Fire Station #2 and Fire boat #21

I personally do not understand why more Tremonter's are not involved and up in arms that our CLOSEST Fire Truck is "Browned Out"

I am linking the local 93 Web Site here. I had spoken to Chester Ashton this afternoon. The only letter of support from the Tremont neighborhood as of today March 1st. 2008 has been the support letter from the Lincoln Heights / Scranton-Starkweather Block Club.

I personally challenge the other nine Block Clubs to engage this issue. I do believe the Auburn Block Club committed to support and sent our politicians a letter.

It is my understanding Tremont West took a position to Support the station also at its Feb. 21st. meeting. Funding was only appropriated for 40 of the 41 current apparatuses in Budget hearings the  week of Feb. 11th.

Their is a possibility that a budget reconsideration process will take place soon, Please write or call the Mayor, Martin Flask, Chief Stubbs, Joe Cimperman, and Joe Santiago and tell them closing this station for even one day a month is unacceptable.

According to this web site the station has been closed 40 out of the last 56 days. Do you in Tremont ewant to play Russian Roulette with your property or the Safety of your family?

Several residents have contacted the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), their actuary Division associated NIST, UL, and others including insurance companies claim that property and casualty insurance for the Tremont and other affected areas could rise as much as 200% to 300%

It will only take one House or business to burn in Tremont before you will all open your eyes. I hope no-one is seriously burned.

Please review this link to the fifth year anniversary to the Rhode Island Nightclub fire, yep this can happen right here in Tremont. From the New York Times.

Councilman Santiago told me on 02-25-08 at the Cleveland City Council meeting that the only reason our Tremont Fire Station is closed is because of the pressure from the Old Brooklyn Comminity to restore and man Engine and Ladder Company 42. Lets pressure Councilman Kevin Kelly that Tremont deserves to be safe as the residents and businesses in Ward 16.

The Below letter is the Lincoln Heights / Scranton-Starkweather Block Club Letter to Mayor Jackson and others.

Re: Browning out of Fire Apparatus Engine #2 and Boat #21

Honorable Mayor Frank Jackson:

Pursuant to a resolution passed at the Lincoln Heights/Scranton Starkweather Block Club on February 07, 2008; we would like it to be known that our membership voted unanimously to support Fire Station #2 located at Scranton Rd. and Carter Ave.

We would strongly urge that your administration, along with City Council work together to find the appropriate funding to maintain this integral Fire Station. This station houses two apparatus, Engine #2 is the first responder for all emergency calls to our Tremont neighborhood. Having the current “Brown out” status puts our residential and business community at risk for a catastrophic event or loss of life.  It is our understanding that with this unit out of service, the response for service to our Tremont neighborhood on several occasions has doubled. This is not in compliance with maximum response time standards mandated from the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association). This situation is clearly unacceptable and must be rectified without delay. Our Cleveland neighborhood deserves equal fire protection and superior service.

Feel free to have a member of your staff contact us if we can be of any further assistance.

Sincerely,

Henry P. Senyak
