Crime Watch Tremont
Posted January 31st, 2008 by Adam Harvey
Tremont has a new Crime and Safety website: Crime Watch Tremont.
...designed to provide anonymity and transparency to the reporting of criminal and suspicious activities as well as a tool for law enforcement and others to identify trends and gather information. It is our hope that this resource will be utilized in conjunction with the cameras being installed throughout Tremont to pin point activity that needs surveillance. This will reduce the possibility of any profiling or finger pointing, perceived or otherwise, which can divide a community.

Does anyone know if the
Does anyone know if the Crimewatch Tremont site is still being maintained? It has not posted a few recent items that I submitted after a week, and no webmaster response.
That is too bad. I thought
That is too bad. I thought there were no updates because there had not been any problems. If it is true it is not being maintained, then I propose that we just start posting problems on here. I think crimewatchtremont was created just so people would not hear about the problems. It's like when they confine G8 protesters to only protesting in certain areas of a city that are far away from the actual meetings.
Whose idea was it to create
Whose idea was it to create a separate site anyways? Is criminaltiy/suspicious activity not something that should be on the community site? It is part of our community and to try and brush it under the carpet is ridiculous.
There is a Crime and Safety
There is a Crime and Safety section to this site. It saw a lot of activity last summer. I think the point of the Crimewatch site is that you can post things there without having a name attached to the post. I just activated a Tremonter account for Crimewatch, so I'm assuming you'll get a better answer soon.
One suggestion I have for the Crimewatch site is to have the most recent reports listed at the top, instead of the oldest. You have to go to page three to see recent reports.
Here is the skinny on CWT; I
Here is the skinny on CWT; I initially created it as a way to organize the crime reports and data so that it can be found easily and that the happenings here would NOT get swept under the rug, as I have perceived it for years.
That being said, what is up now is a test version that is updated by the few residents who currently use the site to report criminal activity. We are evaluating the way it functions and how to make it more clear for residents to submit their reports. There are a few bugs that are being worked out at the moment as well as a few features that will greatly enhance the effectiveness of the site.
Some of the features we are working on are:
- Online, Live Webcams that can be viewed 24/7 by ANYONE (hosted by residents) you can call this a "Window Watch" program. If anyone is interested in getting a live webcam for their home, contact us.
- The option to email your report to the approprate authorities after submission. A note will then appear on the website that the report was emailed to that person. (This will be very unpopular with those geting the email because it will be a public record of their knowledge)
-Overall better listing of crime reports (We are not happy with the initial layout)
These features need to be done soon. We did not want to get the whole neighborhood posting on here before then because it would have been a big mess.
Anyone interested in helping out can email me at admin@crimewatchtremont.com

Is the site
Is the site www.crimewatchtremont.com associated with or sponsored by TWDC?
No. What I am doing is
No. What I am doing is unsanctioned and Politically, unpopular.
On one hand, it is looked upon as airing dirty laundry, which makes the neighborhood look bad (I understand this to a point)
On the other hand, it takes away the ability of officials to deny what us residents are experiencing. This forces them to do something about it and gives us residents ammunition to fight for our neighborhood
I'm just trying to do my part. Again, if anyone is interested in lending a hand, let me know.
