At Visible Voice Books for December Art Walk: Mallorie Freeman

Mallorie Freeman was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. She has been interested in art since she was a child, writing and illustrating books at her grandma's house every Sunday. She won various awards throughout high school for contests, art shows and festivals. Upon graduation from Solon High School, she received a scholarship to The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work was accepted into a student show during her first semester. Wanting to be closer to her family, she moved back to Cleveland and attended the Cleveland Institute of Art. Throughout the early 1990's, she continued to show her art while working at art galleries and doing custom framing. In 1997, she started a company with a friend called Dream Web. They created painted wooden boxes/journals filled with hand-made papers and sleep pillows made with vintage fabrics and herbs from her garden. They sold in local galleries around Kansas City, Missouri and Lawrence, Kansas. Mallorie moved back to Ohio in 2002 and is currently employed at the Bonfoey Gallery in downtown Cleveland.
