Mittal Steel and Our Health

Have you ever noticed Cleveland’s bad air? Ever wonder if the clouds of smoke and tall flame from our downtown steel mill could make you sick? Join Cleveland area doctors, nurses, and community leaders for a public hearing on Mittal Steel and our health on Wednesday, November 14 at Tri-C’s downtown Metro campus in room CC10.

Light refreshments will start at 6:30pm and the hearing will take place from 7:00pm-8:30pm. Come to find out why 375 Cleveland area doctors and nurses have written to Cleveland’s biggest polluter, Mittal Steel, urging pollution prevention. You will also hear from Clevelanders living in neighborhoods next to the facility and have the opportunity to speak your mind on the topic. Dr. Kathleen Fagan from University Hospital's Swetland Environmental Health Center will speak at the event paneled by Dr. Anne Wise, Kim Foreman, and Dr. Dan Brustein.

Don't you think it is a bit unrealistic to expect clean air when you choose to live just a few miles from an active steel mill? My uncle worked for Republic Steel for 50 yrs. in the office, however his office was very close to the blast furnace and he mentioned that batteries were burned in the vacant lot next to his office. In spite of all this exposure he enjoyed excellent health until he died at the age of 95. Go Figure!

I HAD ties to the old Republic, J&L, captive rail companies,LTV tooo. YES is, can be NASTY. BUT lot of controls etc.ON the mill...FEEL WASTE of GOOD heat from that flue stack...SUPRISED w/alllllllllll our engineering talent,etc.etc.can NOT REcapture THAT ...IDEAL conduit FOR said when think bout it. SUPRISED NO (that I know of..) IN/ON the stack mini turbine....WOULD think THAT would make a GOOD 'project'...ALLLLLLLLLLL this SUPERCOMPUTERmodelpower etc.and can not develop SOME kind of particulate REcap..Few mil $s or less and DONE...DEAR www.civicinnovationlab.org OR any of the OTHER NGOs, SCHOOLS,,etc.etc.etc. lookin for 'projects',etc.WEllllllll...THEY do get proposals, only have what ability to shell out $30M to EACH deal, etc.etc.BUT do or should have crosscontacts....START of a new mini industry. EXPAT that tech.... NOT tryin to knock Mojo of whitecollar,plaidcollarcrew doin their thing BUT limits as to how much NGO, funky, etc.etc.etc.stuff can do...

Have TAX $s involved, Jobs, ENOUGH and LOT of related biz, WHAT do w/land if/when whutever happens, WHAT do w/ALLLLL that metal (LONG (($*@hi cost trip OUT..etc.etc.
