Another Armed Mugging

Well my friend and 3 others were mugged right across from Parallax the other night (not sure if it was Friday or Saturday).  It occurred at around 10,30 and took place right on West 11th.  I think it was the same thugs that struck on Friday night, for they were dressed in hoodies and were armed with a sawed off shot-gun.  And sorry for those of you who hate to identify by color, but they were black.  Thankfully no one was harmed and they think the police might have caught the thugs.

There once was a time when I would encourage people to check out Tremont as a place to live.  However, after living here for sometime and realizing that things are not getting any safer, I feel terrible that I  encouraged friends to move here.  This area is not safe and those of you who still encourage people to move here should be imprisoned for aiding and abetting.  What's comical is that the area around Parallax is one of the safer in Tremont.

Also, spare me any comments about "what were they doing walking around at 10,30" or about how much they drank.  Also, do not give me the typical bull-shit about "well, this is a city..."  The harsh reality is that this is a city that is unliveable due to the criminality and the thug culture that is so prevalent.  This is precisely why I am so happy about the section 8 at Tremont Pointe.  I mean, there is no link between crime and poverty, right?  What a stupid idea and what a stupid fool I was in actually thinking this place was safe enough to live.  [insert "return to the suburbs" drivel here]

I would encourage everyone

I would encourage everyone to move out of Tremont because it is not safe. My female companion does not feel safe her as she comes and goes when it is still dark. One mugging after another every weekend is unacceptable. There is no police at night either. All they do is drive around in the day time when nobody is out.

 Bye bye!

fillipo, where did this

fillipo, where did this incident take place exactly? any other details to inform the rest of us? can you give us an update on the possible apprehending of the criminals?
i am definitely getting more involved to contribute to the cause. we need to make sure these scum get what they have coming.

Where across the street

Where across the street from Parallax? They have valet parking, extra lighting and there are many people coming in and going out of that place especially around 10:30 pm. nearly any day of the week.

Directly across the street from Parallax is the SouthSide - again, lots of people going in and out of the place. Although there is a street light that turns off and on there.

Sammy C lives near that corner . . . Sammy, what is happening with the security cameras that TWDC has, but have not yet been installed? Perhaps better lighting would be a partial solution too.

There is a streetlight out in front of 5/3rd bank. Calls have been made about that, but there has been no response and no replacement with a bulb that works.

The problem with that

The problem with that specific area, despite the quality of its housing composition, is that there is such quick escape access to the freeway/flats/abbey rd.
I hope the future camera-posting will include some for monitoring these access roads, and I hope the police are considering these facts for thier patrolling.
Also, there is a lot of overgrown shrubbery and low-hanging tree branches in that area that shroud the sidewalks, just as on Kenilworth, providing ample coverage for predators (especially in front of the valet lot, and next to the Southside). Can TWDC engage property owners and possilby assist them in maximizing visibility in these high-risk areas? Anyone from TWDC care to respond?

Tree Pruning. Just to add a

Tree Pruning.

Just to add a point of Clarification if the Tree actually sits on the Treelawn portion of the property the homeowner cannot trim any part of that specific tree. It actually is owned and maintained by the City of Cleveland and its Division of Parks and Rec. Urban Forestry Section. The only way they will order a emergency trim (2-6 weeks of waiting) is if they determine that its blocking the street light from illuminating the street. They WILL NOT trim the tree to provide better lighting on sidewalks or on private property, they say thats on the homeowner/business owner to put up addtional lighting. Based on our Block Club's experiance with them they will also order a Emergency trim if they feel that branches will hit motor vehicles. So it is important to tell them that you see Fire Trucks hitting the braches as they drive by. They maintain the trees on a non-emergency basis about every seven years or so they say. It may be wise to invite their District Forester to your Block Club over the winter to enact a game plan. We need our elected officials to demand that Tremont gets on the schedule for 2008 in both Ward 13 and 14 for normal trimming.Contact Mr. Steve Balyint, District Forester 664-3278.

Street Lights call this contact person directly, tell them you are from a Tremont Block Club like Lincoln Heights. If you do not see about a 48 hour repair call her back. If you happen to notice Black Electrical Tape around the fixture it means it is needed to be replaced (Several Weeks to order).Contact CPP Ms. Brenda Nelson 664-3922.

Hope that helps.

Don't be chump, Henry. Ever

Don't be chump, Henry. Ever hear of "civil disobedience"? If the trees need pruning, then CUT the mutherfuckers!!! Don't be a whiny peon!

I am not exactly positive

I am not exactly positive where.  I know for a fact that it was on W.11th and right across from Parallax.  The situation could have been a lot worse.  The parents of one of the friends was going to follow them home.  When they approached, they saw the mugging taking place and laid on their horn.  Lucky for them, the thugs took off.  Cimperman was contacted and from what my friend tells me, helped them out a lot.

The reason we think they are caught is because the stupid/moronic/dreg/thug left one of the stolen cell phones at his aunt's house.  When it was called the next morning, the aunt picked it up and gave the location of her house.

I told my friend about this site and I will try to get her to post precisely what happened.

I gave a very accurate

I gave a very accurate response to a persons question. Your response is childish. Peon? Your actions are one of a top notch biggot.

good god - wHAt are you

good god - wHAt are you saying!?! The cops will surely bust you for tHAt! To that you'll get a response and Henry will probably film you... cutting trees on public property...

Lay off the personal

Lay off the personal attacks, people.

I find it interesting after

I find it interesting after reading that "Cimperman" was called shortly after the mugging; and the note from him telling the neighborhood that 3 of the muggers have been arrested . . . does this mean that the ONLY TIME POLICE WILL SHOW UP IS WHEN CIMPERMAN CALLS? All the other calls aren't going to bring police when needed?

Cimperman's office has been called many times (without any response from him . . .) what caused a reaction this time?

 A very insightful thing to

A very insightful thing to stumble upon. I was thinking of moving into Tremont Pointe as one of the upper income folks in the "mixed income housing." Now, I am very unsure. I visited some of the units in Tremont POinte today and really liked them. However, if I run the risk of being mugged at gun point doing one of the things that draws me to the nieghborhood in the first place, I had better take a long hard look at the decision that lies ahead of me. Thanks for having an open forum.

I am hoping to hear that

I am hoping to hear that these thugs are connected with the previous three robberies. I hope the other victims have all made police reports and are being contacted by the detectives.
I posted in Cimperman's forum, and I will repeat myself here--let's rally to get a large turn-out at the Courtwatch and do what we can to make sure these criminals are off the streets. They are so bad for Cleveland and all the work we are doing to make this city a better place for all of us.

What have I gotten myself

What have I gotten myself into??

I took my family out of the eastside. Come here to Tremont because we thought we needed some excitement in our lives. I love the look of this area and our home is beautiful.

Today on the news I wake up to the report of Tremont residents should be on watch.

I hope none of my family saw that because once I told any of them where we moved all I got was "are you nuts".

I guess all I can do is leave with my pepper spray in my hand and pray.

Sue, Get a gun.  My friend

Sue,

Get a gun.  My friend had pepper spray when she was mugged and it did nothing against the 4 thugs/animals.

If you disagree with owning a gun, try reading Lott's "More Guns, Less Crime" or look up the story of Damon Wells and his heroic shooting of Arthur "A-Boogie" Buford.

Also, please know that I wanted Tremont to work as much as the next person.  But it irritates the hell out of me that everyone in the area I asked before moving here told me that "oh it's so safe blah blah".  They fed me the same lies you probably got.

where were the suspects

where were the suspects from?

i think most of the major crime
comes from people outside of tremont coming in to do their work. sure
some crime happens here but i've lived here 10 years and have only run
into minor issues. annoying but still, no guns. its a much safer
environment than say ohio city. nothing but drug dealing and prostitutes
when i lived there.

suspicious behavior observed

suspicious behavior observed near the bank/ATM and professor market on monday afternoon. gray jeep cherokee with two guys--one on foot (black male, 5'8, short hair) and one in car (white male, dark hair) looking like they were possibly trying to time up a robbery of a pedestrian. the car dropped off the one guy around the corner from this intersection, who hid behind a car near the sidewalk spying on something/someone, and the car then did a quick lap around the block and picked the guy up. looks like the guy on foot suddenly got up and began walking away casually, as if things were disrupted or someone saw him--he ran to the car when it came back around. it all took about 15 seconds total, I saw it all from my upstairs window and called police. maybe nothing, maybe gang activity, or maybe a would-be robbery.
vigilance. especially around ATMs.

i read in the sun press

i read in the sun press police blotter that a jeep cherokee was stolen on 12/29 from the ohio city area--i wonder if that was the one seen in the "suspicious behavior..." post above, which seems to of happened a day or two later. that appears to be the vogue for these armed robberies--to do it from stolen cars. if so, lets keep an eye our for this "gray jeep cherokee" creeping around our streets.
