The year is 1927, the place is the Wattleburg Elk’s Club, and the event is a fundraiser for an old time Toys for Tots program. What could be simpler and more wholesome? The men will even be dressed up in fancy clothes, “fancy-type women-type clothes.” As soon as the men don the “lacies” and “stuffies” of their female counterparts, all sense of reason and gender is thrown out the window. Act a Lady by Jordan Harrison premiered last year at the Humana Festival and is a gender bending, genre-twisting comedy that ultimately challenges the audience to answer the question, What is Art?
