Roxy Pain
National Suicide Day
Immolation Monk

[Text by Ron Kretch]:
When a band is so fucked up that they get booted off of the notoriously
fuckup-friendly WFMU, something interesting is happening there. That
band is Roxy Pain, and they're at Pat's this Friday. It'll be their first show in Cleveland, despite that guitarist/mastermind Wolfy is in fact ex-Clevelander Jef Scharf. You may remember him as the illustrator from the late lamented U.S. Rocker magazine, or as the guitarist in the hapless long-ago Clerock band You Would If You Loved Me, or as Ron's old friend Jef. If you don't remember the guy, get your ass to Pat's so you can start formin' memories.

National Suicide Day is Lawrence and Jason from Lives of the Saints with Sean from Interfuse - a long-overdue merger of two bands that were practically siblings anyway. This new project is heaviersludgierthicker than these guys' previous work, a place they seemed bent on going all along. They kick the ass at it, so check 'em.
They've got no tunes on their page, but here it is anyway: http://myspace.com/nationalsuicideday

Immolation Monk are a newish trio about whom I know nothing, except that their tunes are as urgent and headstrong as any Midwestern undy-rock band worth discussing has to be, and as an unknown commodity,
their potential is limitless. Show up early and treat yourself to some.

Featuring in performance:
ex-Clevelander/Kayrock dude Jef Scharf aka Wolfie and his New-Yorke Gruppe, Roxy Pain.also: ex-Lives of the Saints, National Suicide Day: Jason "Conrad" Schafer aka Cinema Shorthand; asthmatic magician / the real "Encyclopedia Brown", Lawrence Daniel Caswell; the Maytag Man of Hardcore, S. D. Djuricic; with yer host,The Bionic But Smoke-Free Bill Ronald Wilhelm Kretsch!

Riffs as thick as your last bout of cottonmouth, noises that'll snap you like old office rubberbands. NOT a show to meet cute boys in girl pants who wear makeup, girls who swear by their CoolCleveland subscription, but there will be Connect Four, Beer, and those other sundry things that serve to prove that Underground Rock has been, and always will be, the D&D of the Overeducated.

Tschuss,

EAS
