Will the new townhomes be

Will the new townhomes be built with workmanship that wouldn't pass a trim carpentry midterm at Max Hayes like the Tremont Ridge ones? Will the new townhomes be orange on the outside and built with the absolute cheapest materials available? Will they look like a spaceship among arts and crafts cottages like the ones on Fruit? Will they suffer from workmanship flaws, cheap materials, and horrible floorplans like the ones on the hill on W.7th? Did your developer just get elected to the TWDC board so that the project got approved? If all of these are true, then I am sure your project will fit right in the neighborhood. :)

Wow, it sounds like you are

Wow, it sounds like you are ready to make a reservation! I can't speak for the other projects that you alluded to but I would certainly be willing to sit down with you and view the proposed site plans. It sounds like you may be able to provide some expertise and insight that the developer may find helpful.

"Arts and crafts cottages”

"Arts and crafts cottages” Oh please, if only, we wish it were so, but alas “park bench” it is not. With a few exceptions the majority of the older housing stock in Tremont, particularly on the north end, is cheap worker housing. Built on the cheap. Nothing note worthy in terms of design in fact often a mish-mash built and added on to. In short it is crap. To call it Arts and Crafts is laughable. I am sure there is at least one true example of an “Arts and Crafts” home in Tremont, but let us be honest most of the housing stock is of no significance other then it has been around a long time.

As for the new stuff... well if your claims are valid and most of it has been built on the cheap... then we are carrying on the neighborhood tradition of worker housing built on the cheap. No worries.

Well maybe one worry... who the hell is responsible for that orange crime against the neighborhood erected on Tremont St. across from the school? Can they be brought up on charges? Vandalism? Pollution? Child abuse maybe? Or at least barred from building anything in the neighborhood ever again. Though I should give them a little credit, after all they went the distance. Not only did they build something horrendously offensive to the eye, they painted it orange making it near impossible not to look at it. Fiendishly clever in its own way.

As for the Bauhaus stuff on and near the ridge, I love them. They look dated from the get go. An urban renewal project forced on the neighborhood circa 1970. The architects and developers of those are to be commended. A remarkable historical, cultural, social and political statement. A time warp bringing into line what could have happened then with what is happening now. Perfect and absolutely brilliant!!!
