Reasons to love Tremont now!

This is inspired by this weeks New York magazine. www.newyorkmetro.com
Be real. Feel free to list more than one. Be nice. This is not for gratuitous bashing or smart aleck cleverness. We are all here because we love it. If we didn't love it, we would live elsewhere. Share those reasons.

A couple of reasons why I love Tremont-
1. There are still a few places that will allow you to run a tab.
2. The view of the onion domes of St. Theodosius when I am walking/driving home.
3. Scott Radkes public art.
4. Within 50 feet of each other there is a restaurant that serves $10.00 martinis and a Post that serves $1.50 domestics.
5. The strong opinions of the residents and the fact that people rarely fold.
6. Riding my bike across the West 11th makeout bridge without stopping and continuing the zoom down the hill towards Clark Field.
7. Hearing the barges on the river and people being paged at Mittal. It is sometimes very surreal.
8. ( I gotta go one more.) Sometimes people have chickens in their yard.

What I love about

What I love about Tremont:
1) It is never dull.
2) Being challenged - both my intellect and my patience - by my Tremont friends and neighbors.
3) Being able to walk to coffee shops, restaurants, galleries, etc. and seeing people I know along the way.
4) Feeling like I'm a part of a community.
5) Never ceasing to be surprised by the neighborhood and its residents.

I love everything about

I love everything about Tremont except my consistent tendency to step in dog poop.

I love Tremont because it is

I love Tremont because it is a real neighborhood. I feel fortunate to have the rare opportunity to live in a community in which taking a walk can turn into a social event.

i love everything in

i love everything in tremont, except getting my car stolen/broken into, and thugs hasseling my girlfriend in front of my house.

When a brother and sister

When a brother and sister who moved off of Tremont Avenue to Rhode Island in 1948 stop by the Merrick House because they came here when they were kids.

How about the fact that this

How about the fact that this neighborhood was built in the day when most people did not have cars!

Rising fuel prices? In some ways stink, others? Maybe good? I've noticed in the last six months:

1. More people walking and interacting as a result of rising fuel costs.

2. The Greek Festival was the largest I remember seeing it (lots of folks stayed home instead of traveling.)

3. Tremont was not a ghost town on Memorial Weekend (as it normally is from folks traveling)

4. Folks seem to be reaching out and connecting from being local bound.

5. More folks are getting together to connect for group experiences: dinner parties, time in the park, staying local, actually getting to meet your extended neighborhood neighbors... not just the folks in your "cluster" or block.

6. Lots of folks are noticing and commenting on the five points above.

It is as if our neighborhood has come full circle... back to the old days.

I like it! And look forward to more...  In a world that has become so Global and can make us feel so overwhelmed and small... our neighborhood can take us away from that feeling and make us feel accepting, significant and connected.

THESE are the things I love about Tremont....
