Ward 13 Councilman Joe Cimperman was born and raised in Cleveland's St. Clair-Superior neighborhood, where he enjoyed the benefits of growing up in the city's most racially, culturally and economically diverse district. The council member's own family added to the neighborhood's cultural energy through their love of their Slovenian heritage. Joe's mother emigrated from Slovenia to the U.S. and his father was a first generation American proud of his Slovenian descent. The family was active in St. Vitus parish, located in the eastern most portion of Ward 13. Joe attended grade school there and continues to be active in the parish. His recent efforts working with the parish have helped produce St. Vitus Village, a senior housing community focused on providing safe, healthy housing for elders who want to stay in the area. Ward 14 Councilman Joe Santiago

Councilman Joe Santiago was elected to represent Cleveland’s Ward 14 on November 8, 2005. He is the second Latin-American Councilman to be elected to serve the residents of Cleveland.
Previous to being elected, Councilman Santiago held the position of Food Service Director for Normandy Manor in Rocky River, a nursing home with 150 bed capacity.
In the early 1970’s,l Councilman Santiago’s parents purchased the home he now lives in. Councilman Santiago attended Buhrer Elementary School and graduated from Saint Michael’s eighth grade in 1981. He then attended the Cleveland School of the Arts for ninth grade and transferred over to his neighborhood high school-Lincoln West for the rest of his education. After graduation he worked as a cook at Holy Family Cancer Home for two years, he then decided to join the United States Navy in 1988. Councilman Santiago holds a BS in Business Management from the University of Phoenix. He is certified in nutrition management by the Metro Community College of Nebraska, completed the Culinary Institute of America’s cooking program and graduated in the top five from the US Navy Mess Management School.
